The Gateway is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The Gates consists of vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzak, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robbie Craig in a mix of garage rock, blues, and psychedelic rock. Lead singer Morrison’s ambiguous lyrics and unpredictable stage personality have made the Gateways one of the most controversial bands in music history. Morrison died on July 3, 1971, and the band disbanded in 1973.
